Ruth Jean Evans Dalton, a resident of Oak Ridge passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at NHC Rehab in Oak Ridge after a fall and brief illness. She was born March 3, 1931 in Jamestown. She graduated from Alvin C. York Agricultural Institute, where she received honors for becoming the highest scoring basketball player in the women’s district. Mrs. Dalton was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Jamestown for over 50 years. She later moved to Oak Ridge and joined Trinity United Methodist Church and then transferred her membership to the First United Methodist Church after the closure of her former church. In her spare-time she loved playing Bingo but her greatest joy came from being around her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Honorable, Samuel Cornelius Evans, Sr. and Ophie Wright Evans of Fentress County.
She is preceded also in death loving husband of 64 years, Eugene Fines Dalton; one brother, Samuel Cornelius Evans, Jr. and sisters, Olga Wood, Opal Hall, Flossie Duncan and Shirley Crouch.
Survivors include her loving daughters, Eugina Tinnerman & husband, Thomas of Oak Ridge, Regenia Barnett & husband, Scott of Kingston, Genia Grumbach & husband, Matt of Texas; grandchildren, Christian, Ashley, Noah and Anna Grumbach, Ethan, Ian, Emma Barnett; sister, Kay Evans Rackard of Farragut; brother-in-law, Casher Crouch of Nashville. Many nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge with funeral service following in the church sanctuary at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Richard Edwards Officiating. Graveside service will follow at 4:00 p.m. CST at Fentress Memory Gardens in Jamestown with Pastor Gary Alley officiating. Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Flowers by Humblebee Flowers and Gifts of Kingston. Online register book can be signed at www.FrakerFuneralHome.net. Fraker Funeral Home of Kingston is in charge of all arrangements.
